Hello, this is Tammy Jahad, Principal of Baucom Elementary with your buddy message.

We need your help. Our school board and administration are surveying all of our parents for your feedback on this year's student assignment process -- what worked, and what could have worked better. Whether you participated in the choice process or chose to keep your pre-assignment for next year, I'd appreciate it if you took five to 10 minutes to complete the survey. You can do it online; there's a button for it on our website and also at www.wcpss.net. We also have paper copies in our front office. Thank you for taking the time to help our school system better serve you.

We have several events going on next week and it will be an exciting and busy time. In order to maintain the safety and security of all students we ask that siblings are not removed from other classes to attend these special events.

Field Day is scheduled for Tuesday with a Rain Date of Wednesday. Please send your child to school with sunscreen applied in comfortable shorts and shoes. All students need a change of clothes to change into after their field day session has concluded.

The 5th grade talent show is on Wednesday, June 6, beginning at 1:00.  Parents of the students involved in the show are invited to attend.  4th and 5th graders will also be watching the show.  Younger siblings are not to be checked out to watch the show.  The show will be taped, and teachers will be able to show it to classes on Thursday.

I have received concerned messages about safety for “Walkers” during afternoon carpool telling me that parents have been picking their children up at the school, then walking over to Hillcrest Road to get into their cars and drive away. Parents are parking on both sides of Hillcrest, making it dangerous for cars to pass. Children are getting into cars on the street side (as opposed to the curb) creating a dangerous situation if someone made a quick turn onto this road. One of the days parents were lined up on the opposite side of Hillcrest, directly across from a town truck doing sewer service, blocking traffic turning onto the street and children were walking around the traffic congestion.

I cannot stress enough the need for everyone to follow the safety rules surrounding dismissal. Walkers are students who walk from their home to the school or vice versa. It is not okay to bypass the carpool lane by working around this system. We have already experienced one really frightening accident this year. Please take the time and follow the procedures that are designed to keep everyone safe. Thank you for your cooperation!
