State of the Schools
Wake County students at every grade span made academic gains in 2011-12, according to newly released results from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction. In addition to district-wide increases in proficiency, Economically Disadvantaged students in Wake County demonstrated the highest levels of proficiency in math and reading that they have achieved under the state's current testing model. Non-Economically Disadvantaged students showed impressive gains, as well.

After School Student Activities:
Lego League
Lego League is a noncompetitive club that meets after school to build structures based on a theme. This year's club had to build models in the biomedical engineering field. The students built motorized wheel chairs, ambulances, MRI machine, prosteic arms and much more.
Mad Science
The aim of Mad Science, an after school program, is to spark the imagination and curiosity of children by providing them with fun, entertaining and educational activities that instill a clear understanding of what science is really about and how it affects the world around them.
Music Matters
Dear Parents,
Thank you again for your patronage and support of the MUSIC MATTERS AFTER SCHOOL program. As you were informed last month, the Music Matters After School program has been going through a reorganization process. A significant amount of time and effort through many individuals has been put forth to ensure the success of the program. We appreciate your participation in the program, and wish we could continue to provide a quality musical experience for your child(ren); however, we regret to inform you that we will be unable to continue the program beyond the year-end spring concert.
This was not an easy decision for us and we hope you understand. To show our appreciation for your participation, if you and your child are currently renting an instrument from Music Matters After School, we would like to extend an offer of up to 76% off of the original retail price, so that your child may continue to practice music each and every day (students entering middle school next year will be able to use this instrument in the band or orchestra class offered in your school). Due to the significant discount, all instruments will be sold "as is". Pricing for instruments (which includes credit for your accumulated rental payments) are as follows:
Category Avg. Retail Price Your Price
Cellos (all sizes) $1,280.00 $400.00
Violas (all sizes) $812.00 $250.00
Violins (all sizes) $553.00 $175.00
Saxophones $1,836.00 $500.00
Clarinets $1,033.00 $250.00
Flutes $870.00 $250.00
Percussion Kits $599.00 $250.00
Trombones $938.00 $250.00
Trumpets $840.00 $250.00
If you wish to purchase your rental instrument(s), please email Rena Sutton at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call toll-free (855) 998-3110 before April 30th. Payment may be made using your credit card on file. Your account must be current, and applicable sales tax will be charged.
If you do not wish to purchase your rental instrument(s), you may return your instrument(s) at the year-end concert, or at our office (500 Sun Valley Dr., Suite D1, Roswell, GA 30076). We will assume an instrument not returned through one of these options by June 1st in Georgia (July 1st in North Carolina) is being retained for your child's use, and your credit card will be charged the amount shown above.
It has been a pleasure providing a quality music education experience to your child(ren), and we hope you are able to participate in a band or orchestra program in the near future. Please feel free to contact Rena Sutton, Cris Chiles, Michelle Azzi or myself at (855) 998-3110 (toll free) and/or (770) 998-3110 (GA residents).

Other Student Activities:
PTA Cultural Arts Programs
Music Box Singers
This achievement-based choral group is open to fourth and fifth grade students who successfully complete a minimal audition. While several basic skills are assessed on an individual basis during the audition, the only musical requirement is that the student matches pitch consistently. The chorus holds regular rehearsals from 7:30-8:15 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Baucom Buddies Marathon
This program is designed to help kids find fun in exercising while learning about goal setting, self-discipline and perseverance. The major objective is to encourage families to work with their children to fight off childhood obesity. Students sign up in December to walk or run a 26.2 marathon while logging their miles at home. With the help of their parents, they have just over three months to complete 25 miles on their own. All participants will walk or run together to complete the final 1.2 miles of the Marathon in April.
