Earth Cycles

The learner will build an understanding of the earth/moon/sun system.

1. Using shadows, observe the movement of the sun in the sky during the day.

2. Observe the angular position of the sun at noon over several months and relate to seasons.

3. Observe the change in shape of the moon from day to day over several months to determine a pattern.

4. Observe that stars in the night sky appear as tiny points of light.

Timely Shadows - Students measure and compare lengths of shadows over a period of time, collect the data and can compare it with students from other places (many of you know teachers around the world or we can find schools from the Internet to collaborate with) or with each other.

Space - The Final Frontier - There are 2 activities here that are great to use - "Moon Shadows" and "Phases of the Moon". Be sure to click on the "Teacher's Notes" button for background information and explanations.

Check out the following movies, experiments and activities from BrainPop.com - Eclipse , Life Cycle of Stars, Moon, Seasons, and Sun. Remember, if you’re using them at school, Baucom can only access it 3 times in a day. You can access the activities as often as you’d like though.
