Take a virtual tour of the home MLK, Jr. lived in as a child at Martin Luther King: BirthHome Tour. Students can click on a floor plan of the house to view panoramic footage of a particular room. Under each video picture there is kid-friendly text describing what sorts of things went on in that room of the house. Look at what a second grade class learned about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. You can use some of these ideas for activities as you read other biographies. Biographies of Great African-Americans is a collection of short easy to read biographies of famous African-Americans throughout history. Kulture Kidz Black History from A-Z is a good site for some biographies and events written just for kids. The History Channel's Celebrate Black History Month has a nice collection of links to biographies of famous African-Americans. Here's another site definitely worth checking out! The Encyclopedia Britannica Guide to Black History has a wonderful and informative timeline, a variety of articles on specific eras, an alphabetical listing to biographies of MANY Black Americans, and an audio/visual section with clips from historical events. Throughout history, African Americans have invented some important and fun devices. Read about ten examples of men and women and see what they invented at Scholastic's The Top Ten African-American Inventors. Explore the path of black history with Scholastic's Culture and Change - The Evolution of Black History's interactive timeline. CNN Black History Month: Soul of a Culture has a gallery section with short biographies for cultural pioneers, inventors, musicians, and writers. Be sure to try the Black History Trivia Quiz after. Take a look at the history of African Americans and their struggle for freedom at World Book's The African American Journey. The Internet African American History Challenge© is an interactive quiz that helps you sharpen your knowledge of African American History. It's an "open book" test.
